Sample Scripts
• Edit Multiple HTML Files
Mass HTML editor — can change every web page on your web site. Edited copies go into a new folder to preserve originals. (You could also move the originals to a temp folder so when you modify the HTML it can go to the original folder.)

• ASCII Character Clean-up
Keep, delete or translate (from ISO-8859-1 to 7-bit) characters above $7F (decimal 127); keep or delete characters below $20 (decimal 32) except for Tab, CR, LF, FF.

• ASCII and EBCDIC Conversion
Convert from EBCDIC Latin-1 to ASCII ISO-8859-1 characters and vice-versa.

• CSV File Processing
This is a basic example of handling a CSV file with a Parse-O-Matic (POMPT) script.

• Duplicate Line Remover
Delete repeated lines from a text file. The deletion decision can be based on the entire line or a range of columns (e.g. character position 5 to 10). The removed lines can be saved to the log file.

• Firewall and Server Log Files to CSV
Convert Windows firewall log to a form that can be read by a spreadsheet or database — the conversion and filtering technique demonstrated can be applied to many types of log file.

• GPS data file to CSV Format
Convert GPS NMEA 0183 RMC Format.

• Parse Web Page, Leaving Only Raw Text
After you save a copy of the page (see our FAQ for details), the script will remove HTML tags (plus scripts and headers) from .htm and .html files. Wildcarding is supported, so you can filter every page from a web site in one operation.

File Format
Many of the files we provide in the Parse-O-Matic Knowledge Base are derived from the Parse-O-Matic Free Edition Help files or scripts. Therefore:

Files derived from our Help documentation use a markup system similar to HTML. In such cases we use HTML's "cascading style sheets" to simulate our Help files. For this reason we recommend viewing these files with a CSS-compliant browser such as Mozilla or Firefox.
In our Parse-O-Matic applications the scripts and Help files are generally displayed in a fixed-pitch font, so the files in the Parse-O-Matic Knowledge Base use a monospaced typeface extensively.
The information presented in these files may be somewhat idiosyncratic, as it is often adapted from work we have done for a client. (See "Fictionalization", below.)

Please do not assume that what is written here is definitive, complete, up-to-date, or universally applicable. These files are intended to give you some information that may be helpful, but they are not tutorials.

Fictionalization
Any sample data presented in the Parse-O-Matic Knowledge Base is fictionalized for demonstration purposes and does not necessarily refer to any real person or institution.

When we fictionalize the information we may inadvertently introduce some errors. Please bear this in mind if, for example, a sample field seems to be one character too short.
